Docomo Sharp AQUOS ZETA SH-01G

I have been using this phone as primary phone on daily basis for about a year and I totally love this phone. I used to own flagships phones from HTC, Asus, Samsung and LG. None of them given the same experience as Sharp AQUOS Zeta SH-01G could give.

The design of the phone is blocky and made of plastic but it is solid and well made. Like most gadgets, it is ‘Made in China’. In my opinion it is better than Samsung’s premium plastic phones. This phone does not feel cheap or flimsy. It feels quality on hand.

Major feature 1: IGZO-TFT screen
The screen is powered by a IGZO crystal technology, which is one of the major feature of this phone. The SH-01G has been developed and fine tuned with its 3300mAh battery to increase its life making you less worry throughout the day. IGZO is a combination of the following Indium, Gallium, Zinc and Oxygen (in short “IGZO”) composed together with its TFT (Thin film transistors), the phone can show still images even when electrical current is not flowing through the phone, thus making it a huge power saving feature for the phone. *IGZO-TFT was developed by Professor Hideo Hosono's group at Tokyo Institute of Technology and Japan Science and Technology Agency (JST) in 2003 (crystalline IGZO-TFT) and in 2004 (amorphous IGZO-TFT).*

The 3300mAh battery performance is amazing, at 2h 33m on battery it is still 100% and at 2h37m it dropped one percent!!

Major feature 2: screen-to-body ratio
A typical 5.5 inch 1080p screen phone you may expect it to be a large phone but Sharp prove you otherwise. 5.5 inch IGZO screen of SH-01G largely covering over 81% of the phone. The clear frame and narrow design makes the body height and size more compact. The phone does not feel large when holding it you realise it is not difficult to hold.

Major feature 3: GR certified lens
The built in 13.1MP CMOS camera was certified by a high class team from Ricoh and its GR series who also developed the lens in this phone. The wide shots hold a amazing contrast and high lens resolution, which takes great photos that needed little to none for digital editing afterwards. The camera has optical image stabilizer reduce the camera shake under the control of the lens position, adopting an optical camera shake correction. I’m a avid Ricoh GR/GRD user naturally this is the main motivation to get the phone. You can look the photos quality in my review on Ricoh GR here.

Overall this is a great phone and I’m glad that I found it and happily using it daily. Unfortunately I’m not able to use most of the Japanese app especially the EMOBA as I can’t read and I’m not reside in Japan. I plan to buy the updated model SH-03G but I don’t have strong reasons to do so yet. SH-03G is running on Android 5.0, has smaller battery capacity 3000mAh and CPU is Snapdragon 810 which I still have doubt on the heating issue. I love my current phone for its huge battery life so that’s why I’m still holding back. Perhaps I may change when it finally fail on some day.
